We complete landmark commerce programme for Premier Farnell

46 B2B ecommerce sites rolled out worldwide, in 50 language variants and 20+ currencies

Wunderman Thompson Commerce is pleased to announce it has supported Premier Farnell, the world-leading distributor of electronic components and equipment, to complete the delivery of a new global B2B web platform serving Europe, the Americas and Asia Pacific.

Wunderman Thompson Commerce engaged with Premier Farnell to replace its aging ATG platform with IBM WebSphere Commerce. The core objective was to provide a flexible and scalable solution that would cater for the needs of its global business with a single platform that could handle 70% of its £1B business. The project launched in Northern America in November 2013 with new sites serving the US, Canada and Mexico.

Wunderman Thompson Commerce has now completed the roll out of the solution across 46 sites, while maintaining a focus on the needs of existing customers and maintaining business as usual activities. The final stage of this mammoth project saw new sites for the UK, Ireland, France, India and Israel. The new web platform is now live across the world in over 50 language variants and over 20 currencies.

Wunderman Thompson Commerce also provided a number of services during the programme to enhance the customers experience and make it easier for Premier Farnell staff to manage promotional activity throughout the world. These included design, customer experience, analysis, and architecture and integration services. Additionally Wunderman Thompson Commerce created a custom-built Content Management System and migrated legacy data to ensure a seamless transition for customers, whilst improving merchandising.

Steve Johnson, Global Information Systems Officer at Premier Farnell said: “The global replacement of our legacy system, across all continents and including every single website, is a phenomenal achievement. Wunderman Thompson Commerce's expertise has been vital for every migration and as a result together we have delivered a new platform that will support the growth of Premier Farnell for years to come.”

“Our websites are fundamental to our multichannel offering. Wunderman Thompson Commerce has shown dedication, professionalism and hard work over the years and with their help we will continue to grow at a time when the online environment is becoming increasingly competitive.”

Neil Stewart, CEO at Wunderman Thompson Commerce said: “This is an outstanding achievement for all involved. The completion of the deployment across APAC and Europe marks the end of the new web platform project and the beginning of a truly exciting time of growth and improvement for Premier Farnell.”

Wunderman Thompson Commerce continues to support Premier Farnell with an upcoming focus on improving the customer experience with the use of mobile phones and tablets, as well as enhancing its search functionality and adding more content.
