Alex Stewart

Solution Architect, UK - Watford

My role involves creating and translating technical requirements the developers can work with to build the actual product. It’s a nice blend of client interaction and hands-on work with the development team – and I also get to draw pretty diagrams in bright colours! A large part of my day is spent addressing design challenges and managing feedback from the developers.

I arrived at Wunderman Thompson Commerce as a developer straight out of university two years ago. I studied history and knew nothing at all about development. After 18 months I had the opportunity to work as a junior architect, still retaining a pretty hands-on role in development to help me build my technical expertise.

Everything here is geared towards delivering software that works seriously well, not just big fluffy ideas, and we’ll adopt both a creative and pragmatic approach in getting things done. On a personal level it still feels like a small company as everyone from management level to developers and testers know each other really well. Working arrangements are always flexible, and I’m positively challenged to develop my skillsets in support of my career progression.

I play five-a-side football and squash which is organised internally – and I try to get the team out to the pub session once a week…
