Head of Front End Development, UK - Watford
I manage over 30 Front End Developers (ranging from graduates to Team Leads) both on and off-site, as well as nearshore in Bulgaria. Every day is different: I could be interviewing for project resource, settling in new Grads, revising training plans or resolving resource conflicts. I am also involved in the wider CX team managing the resourcing and day-to-day planning as well as generally being on-hand if they need support.
I am sure I am not the only one who has stated it’s the people and their obvious passion to work together as a team that attracted me to Wunderman Thompson Commerce. I was brought in to lead and not just manage the Front End team, and their sense of purpose and enthusiasm to change for the better is evident throughout the company.
At Wunderman Thompson Commerce I get a buzz out of watching my Front End (FE) developers work collaboratively from grad level to Senior Team Lead. This was especially evident when we held our first Wunderman Thompson Commerce Hackathon event – I could see how much they enjoyed working together and were all up for the challenge, with everyone determined to be on the winning team! I also get a buzz out of seeing the FE Grads happily sail through their training plan, knowing that these developers are our future.
In terms of FE, Headless commerce and Progressive Web App technology are both gaining momentum – we need to be ahead of the game if we want to compete.
My 21st century problem is how to leave What’s App groups without the annoying “Sarah has left the chat” message popping up for all to see!
If I could have a superpower, I would want to be able to turn back time so I can re-live the good times in my life, knowing that there are more to come!
